Serving as the creative home of the South Lake Art League, Montrose Art Gallery is a dynamic exhibition and studio space where local artists create, learn, teach, and share their work with the community.
Visitors will discover an ever-changing collection of original artwork created by artists from South Lake County. The gallery features a wide variety of mediums, including painting, photography, mixed media, collage, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, and more. The work on display reflects both an artist’s finest accomplishments and their ongoing explorations, offering visitors a glimpse into the creative process as well as the finished result. Most artwork is available for purchase directly through the gallery, providing an opportunity to support local artists while bringing original art into your home or workplace.
As a member-driven gallery, exhibition opportunities are available through the South Lake Art League’s volunteer-based gallery program. Artists contribute their time and talents in support of the organization and, in return, may submit artwork for exhibition consideration. The final selection process is collaborative, with artists and the Board of Directors working together to create a thoughtful and engaging gallery experience.
Artwork is selected based on overall presentation, craftsmanship, originality, visual impact, and readiness for display. The Board also considers how individual pieces work together as a collection, ensuring a balanced representation of artistic styles, mediums, subject matter, and perspectives. The goal is to showcase each artist’s strongest work while creating a gallery experience that is both inspiring and enjoyable for visitors.
More than an exhibition space, Montrose Gallery serves as a gathering place for artists, students, collectors, and art enthusiasts. Through exhibitions, classes, workshops, and community programs, the gallery provides opportunities to discover new artists, explore creative ideas, and experience the visual arts in a welcoming and inspiring environment.
