Three Open Calls for Artists: Opportunities at South Lake Art League

There’s a lot happening at South Lake Art League this fall, and right now we have three open calls for artists—each offering a different way to share your creativity, exhibit your work, and become part of our growing arts community.

From photography and fine art to a new public art opportunity in Downtown Clermont, there’s something for artists working across a wide range of mediums and experience levels.

Here’s what’s currently open—and one deadline is coming up in just four days!

Fall Photography Show — Deadline August 28

Photographers, this one is almost here! Entries for the South Lake Art League Fall Photography Show close Friday, August 28 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

Open to photographers ages 18 and older and all experience levels, this juried exhibition will feature selected photographs in the South Lake Art League Gallery September 9–30, 2026.

Photographers may submit up to four original photographs for consideration. Selected work will also be eligible for cash awards:

First Place: $500
Second Place: $200
Third Place: $150

The entry fee is $8 per photograph for current SLAL members and $10 per photograph for non-members.

If you’ve been thinking about entering, now is the time to choose your strongest images and get your submission in. The deadline is only four days away.

Fall Art Show — Entries Open Through September 18

Our annual Fall Art Show is also accepting entries!

This juried exhibition is open to artists ages 18 and older and welcomes original artwork from artists of all experience levels. Artists may submit up to four works for consideration, with selected artwork exhibited in the South Lake Art League Gallery this fall.

Like the Photography Show, the Fall Art Show includes cash awards selected by the exhibition juror:

First Place: $500
Second Place: $200
Third Place: $150

Entries are $8 each for current SLAL members and $10 each for non-members, and submissions will be accepted through September 18 at 11:59 p.m. ET.

If you have a piece you’re especially proud of—or something new you’ve been working on—this is a great opportunity to get it out of the studio and onto the gallery wall.

Make It Rain Art — Help Create Downtown Clermont’s Next Interactive Mural

Our newest call for artists is a little different—and we can’t wait to see what our creative community comes up with.

The South Lake Art League is updating the Make It Rain Art mural located in the Downtown Clermont Art District Art Walk, in the alley connecting W. Montrose Street and W. Minneola Street across from Roasted Spirit.

The mural features a real umbrella permanently mounted to the wall, and we’re looking for an artist with a fresh idea for what happens around it.

What could be falling from the sky? Pouring into the umbrella? Splashing, floating, growing or bursting around it?

We’re looking for an original concept that makes the umbrella an intentional part of the artwork and creates a colorful, imaginative experience for people walking through the Art District.

And here’s the important part: you do not need mural experience to apply.

Artists working in illustration, watercolor, mixed media, photography, digital art, graphic design, painting and other creative disciplines are encouraged to submit concepts. The selected artist will be paired with an experienced mural artist who can help adapt the chosen artwork to the wall and bring the idea to life.

This opportunity is open to artists who reside full-time in Lake County, Florida, with preference given to South Lake County residents and South Lake Art League members. There is no submission fee, and this is an unpaid public art opportunity.

The call officially opens today, August 24, and submissions will be accepted through September 28.
