South Lake Art League Members’ Meeting

February 6, 2010

By Susan Waine, Secretary

.

Vice President Peggy Ernest conducted the meeting in President Kathie Camara’s absence.

.

The Chamber Ambassador Breakfast is on February 19th.  The table sponsored by the Art League needs to be set up on February 18th between 12:30 – 2:30 p.m.  Peggy asks that placemats, napkins and tablescapes being donated by artists are dropped off at the Montrose gallery by Friday, February 12.  Peggy would like to lay out the table as a dress rehearsal before the actual event.

.

Kathie Camara has looked into the current price to add the South Lake Art League to the Directory signs located on various corners in Clermont.  The special price for the month of February is $125 for the first sign and $50 for each extra sign.    After polling the Board for approval, she made arrangements to have signs added to the directories at the corners of Montrose & 7th Street and Montrose & 8th street.

.

Peggy reminded everyone about the upcoming Treasure Box paint party from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on February 20 at the new Cagan Crossings (CC) Gallery.  Peggy asked if anyone present could give a brief summary of how the new gallery is doing.  Susan Waine said she had been there a few times attending classes on Wednesday evening during the farmers’ market, plus at last month’s meeting which was held there.  A few new members that live near Cagan Crossings have joined the Art League and are attending classes at the CC Gallery.  She thought a few items had been sold there as well.  During the farmers market, there were several people that drop by the gallery and ask questions about classes.

.

Shirley Sojourner asked about where the Treasure Boxes in the Montrose Gallery will be stored during the photography show.  Someone at the meeting thought that they were going to be stored on the shelving in the back or at the CC gallery.  Shirley will send an email to Kathie Camara to verify this.  So far she has received entry forms for 100 photographs.

.

Shirley also asked about the items outside in the back of the gallery building that were making the area look trashy.  They really need to be cleaned up before it becomes a problem.  Harry Gray had told someone that he could take it someplace in his truck, if someone could load it.  Tom Thomas said he also has a truck and was willing to haul the trash someplace, but he also is unable to load the truck.  Keith Myers said he can load the truck.  Shirley said she can help.  It was determined that the Station on Loghouse Road would be open on Wednesday and the trash could be dropped off there.  So on Wednesday, February 10 at 9:00 a.m., everyone that is available is going to meet at the gallery on Montrose Street to load trash into the back of Tom Thomas’ truck to be hauled to the Station on Loghouse Road.

.

It was announced that Ruth Ackerman has volunteered to be the Gallery Coordinator for the gallery on Montrose Street.  Brenna Mazzoni is the Gallery Coordinator for the gallery at Cagan Crossings.  Ruth asks that people sign up for some of the empty spaces during the upcoming show.  She will soon start calling members and asking them if they can sit at the gallery if the spaces are not filled up.

.

Shirley asked if there is a way for people without email to get the newsletters.  Opal McClanahan said she receives them in the regular mail.  Ruth suggested that maybe some copies of the newsletters can be left at the Gallery so people can pick up a copy.

.

Tom Thomas gave the Treasurer’s Report.  As of January 31, there is $6,560.85 in the bank plus 1 CD.  The classes being given by members and the member sponsored workshops and a few sales of artwork are bringing money into the Art League.

.

Someone asked about the leak in the Storage Shed.  Keith explained that he found a product used on mobile home roofs that would seal the roof above the shed.  However, we need a string of days with no rain and temperatures 70 degrees or greater in order for the product to seal properly.  This winter we have not had such weather.

.

The meeting was adjourned and Keith Myers began his Demo of creating a Live Portrait in Pastel.
