General Meeting

May 7, 2011

The May General Meeting and Installation of Officers was held at Golden Corral restaurant.  President Kathie Camara called the meeting to order. 

The minutes of the April meeting as posted on the website were approved.  Joan Novotony made the motion, seconded by Janice Senninger.  Motion carried.

Lillian Stokes gave a short history of the Poetry Guild and the Art League and read the poem, "Why is Blue Sad?" by Denise McCullough.

History Synopsis:

• Art League begun by an art teacher in 1966 to display and promote art. 
• Shows and displays were placed in various locations around the town.  For a while a room was made available at Jenkins Auditorium for the display of art. 
• Fourteen years later there was a desire to purchase a building, which is the current location of the Montrose Gallery. 
• A published poet, Paul Hallstead, paid off the building debt, so the League is indebted to poetry for being able to have a building.

Kathie stated that she will put the information about the history of the building purchase on the website.  She also mentioned that all art forms are encouraged by SLAL, including poetry, photography and 3-dimensional art.  She also mentioned that the Cagan Gallery has a number of different kinds of art represented.

The 2011-2012 Officers were installed.  Kathie thanked retiring Treasurer, Susan Waine, for her service on the Board.  The following officers were installed:

President, Community Liaison & Montrose Gallery Manager:  Janice Senninger

First Vice-President/Program:  Tom Thomas

Second Vice-President/Hospitality:  Joan Novotny

Show Chairman:  Kathy Henderson

Treasurer, Website Maintenance and Cagan Gallery Manager:  Kathie Camara

Secretary:  Peggy Ernest

Susan Waine made a motion to adjourn, seconded by Janice Senninger.

Following the meeting, lunch and fellowship was enjoyed.
